Increasing Boarding Lost Time at Regular Bus Stops during Rainy Conditions: A Case Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Inclement weather conditions affect the behavior of travelers and transportation system operations. Understanding this influence can help improve operational planning schemes for any mode transport, especially buses. One factors that be affected by rainfall is time expended a passenger from moment bus opens its doors until he/she boards bus. This known as boarding lost (BLT); it was first introduced in last edition Transit Capacity Quality Service Manual (TCQSM). TCQSM only considers BLT rapid transit (BRT) stations with more than one berth. Weather are not considered when calculating current BRT system, given provision protective shelters over entire area such stations. Furthermore, recommendations regard to regular stops have been provided. paper presents analyses two-berth stop under different rainy conditions. The findings demonstrate increment heavy significantly higher difference between BLTs Berth 2 1 absence rainfall.

Models of Bus Queueing at Curbside Stops
We consider curbside bus stops of the kind that serve multiple bus routes, and that are isolated from the effects of traffic signals and other stops. A Markov chain embedded in the bus queueing process is used to develop steady-state queueing models for two special cases of this stop type. The models estimate the maximum rate that buses can arrive to, and be served by the stop, and still satisf...
متن کاملPassenger Wait Time Perceptions at Bus Stops: Empirical Results and Impact on Evaluating Real- Time Bus Arrival Information
This study quantifies the relationship between perceived and actual waiting times experienced by passengers awaiting the arrival of a bus at a bus stop. Understanding such a relationship would be useful in quantifying the value of providing realtime information to passengers on the time until the next bus is expected to arrive at a bus stop. Data on perceived and actual passenger waiting times,...
متن کاملMagnetic declination stops migratory birds getting lost at sea
In the 1700s, scientists, sailors, engineers and explorers were trying to work out how to navigate east to west at sea. The stakes were high; many lives were lost because sailors could not reliably measure longitude. Eventually, the invention of accurate timepieces allowed sailors to use the time in their current location, and the time at a fixed reference, to calculate longitude. But how do lo...
متن کاملGIS-Based Safety Bus Stops— Serdang and Seri Kembangan Case Study
Enhancing a bus transit system is a possible solution to the growth of congestion in urban areas. Issues related to the safety of bus passengers, either on board or during their travel to a bus stop, should be considered. This article presents a GIS method to identify risky bus stops on a single bus route in the Serdang and Seri Kempangan area according to three attributes: location, characteri...
متن کاملSmoking close to others and butt littering at bus stops: pilot observational study
Background. Transportation settings such as bus stops and train station platforms are increasingly the target for new smokefree legislation. Relevant issues include secondhand smoke exposure, nuisance, litter, fire risks and the normalization of smoking. We therefore aimed to pilot study aspects of smoking behavior and butt disposal at bus stops. Methods. Systematic observation of smoking and b...
